HISTWIN research project (High strength steel tower for wind turbines)
HISTWIN (HIgh strength   Steel Towers for WINd turbines) is a European research project that aims at the parametric analysis (theoretical and laboratory) of high strength steel towers for wind turbines.
Project participants are:

- Lulea University of Technology in Sweden
- Polytechnic School in Aachen, Germany
-Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
-University of Coimbra in Portugal

The insurance company Germanischer Lloyd and two large European wind turbine manufacturing companies, Repower and RUKKI, are also participating in the project.

The research was done based on the Repower wind turbine
ΜΜ-92. For that purpose, such a wind turbine was constructed in Portugal, in which sensors were installed. The sensors measured the displacements and deformations combining the wind data, in order to compare them with the results of the computational models.

Our office, in collaboration with Professor Charalampos Baniotopoulos at the Institute of Metal structures, AUTH, constituted the research team on behalf of AUTH.
